Development of sustainable food production through the use of innovative technologies aimed at packaging redesign and full supply chain monitoring.

Project

The project addresses the growing focus on environmental protection by offering alternatives to plastic packaging without compromising food safety standards. The approach is based on the principles of the circular economy to enhance the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of food systems.

It aims to improve the safety, quality, and healthiness of food production while preserving sensory and environmental aspects.
This will be achieved through the use of natural materials, preferably of organic origin, and the development of innovative, healthy, protein-rich, and energizing formulations using locally sourced raw materials from organic farming. Additionally, food processing by-products will be valorized in a circular economy perspective.

The goal is to improve food production, distribution, and consumption through the implementation of smart systems and the connection between supply chain actors, reducing waste, improving logistics, and ensuring a sustainable and high-quality food supply.

Challange

The project aims to respond to the growing attention from institutions and consumers towards environmental protection by promoting the study and research of alternative solutions to currently used plastic packaging, without compromising the high standards of food preservation and safety. The adopted approach seeks to increase the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of food systems by applying the principles of the circular economy. In particular, the use of compostable packaging represents an example of organic circular economy.

Innovation

The main innovation of the project is the development of intelligent and interconnected systems for monitoring and optimizing the overall efficiency of the food supply chain, through the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).

How life changes

The entire process of food production, distribution, and consumption will be improved efficiently through the implementation of intelligent systems that use AI to make informed decisions and connect the various actors in the supply chain via IoT. This will allow for the optimization of operations, reduction of waste, improvement of logistics, and ensure a sustainable and high-quality food supply.
